Late in 2020, Impel developed a drop-in replacement fuel controller to upgrade antiquated TSCD and HSDE fuel controllers. The unit was shipped to Germany over Christmas, however Covid restrictions prevented us from travelling for in-person commissioning. Working remotely with the clients’ representatives, we were able to commission the installation from Calgary and bring the turbine and genset online. This included sending a remote access laptop to the site along with some very late nights online during German business hours.
The 501KB turbine genset had previously used a HSDE controller which had failed. The end client did not have any documentation, program, or setpoints from the HSDE available. The new Impel fuel control was integrated with the existing Siemens package PLC and its start sequence, Impel’s new fuel control was then tuned for the 501KB engine specifics.
