Impel Systems recently modernized the hardware and software responsible for controlling an Allison-501 KB5 turbine in an energy conversion center. We installed an Allen-Bradley CompactLogix PLC, along with FactoryTalk SE software. The User Interface (UI) received a complete overhaul, designed to optimize safety by maximizing clarity and operator useability. Equipped with a 21” monitor providing great visual presentation and functionality! We removed and recycled approximately 10 pounds of old and unnecessary wire. The turnaround time for the complete replacement was one week, ensuring the unit was back up and running quickly and effectively.
Heat Recovery Steam Generation (HRSG) controls were upgraded to run much more efficiently and reliably. The KB5 turbine can now control on Steam Header Pressure, courtesy of our highly trained programmers here at Impel Systems.
